Arthur Residence
Located in the Zilker neighborhood of Austin, the proposed modern residence responds to the site’s mature cedar elms to create a variety of outdoor living areas.
The Front Yard is a sedge garden punctuated by towering cedar elms and an entry walk meandering between them. The courtyard beyond, screened by breezeblock, is envisioned as a lush outdoor dining space. The outdoor living room at the back of the house opens onto a lawn enframed by a textural, colorful planting. These organic forms are juxtaposed with a sleek, rectilinear pool. A gate and informal path link the backyard to Rabb Road. The Streetscape the is characterized by crushed limestone gravel, xeric plantings, and row of ornamental trees that create backdrop to the backyard. Views to neighboring properties are screened at key locations using a combination of planting and privacy fencing.
These varied garden rooms serve as a showcase of native plantings and invite family life outdoors.
